Kindergarten Families: Starting the New School Year

We are excited to welcome our kindergarten families to CMCSS! Whether this is your first student in the district, or you are an experienced first-day family, here are some things you should know as we begin the school year.

Registration and Enrollment

If you have not yet signed up for school, you can register online at parents.cmcss.net.

Online registration is the first step in the enrollment process. Families will still need to turn in important registration documents in person to either the Enrollment Center or their child’s school once the school front offices reopen on July 22.

If you need technical assistance or prefer to register in person, please contact the Enrollment Center at 931-542-5078 to set up an appointment.

See a list of the necessary documents here.

Kindergarten Meet and Greet

All elementary schools will host a Kindergarten Meet & Greet on Friday, August 6 from 5-6 p.m. This is a great time to visit with your child’s teacher, tour the school, and learn about a typical kindergarten day!

First Day of School

All kindergarteners will attend the half-day of school on Monday, August 9. Each elementary school will host its first day of school in a manner best suited for its families. While it is not required that families attend the entire half-day, some may choose to do so.

What does my student need to bring on the first day of school?

This half-day is designed to make your child comfortable with the transition to school. While nothing is required to bring on the first day, they can carry their backpack and water bottle. It may also be a good time to drop off school supplies.

Can I walk my child into school on the first day?

Yes, parents are welcome to walk with their children into school on Monday, August 9, and attend a brief meeting. Teachers are ready to greet families in their classrooms. More information on the first day of school will be provided during the Meet and Greet on August 6.

Flex Days (August 12 – 13; 16-17)

Schools will communicate individually with families regarding kindergarten flex days. Your child will be scheduled to come into school on one of the four days following August 9. All kindergarteners will then begin school on Wednesday, August 18 for their first full day of school. Caregivers can walk their child to class on their assigned flex day, where teachers will acclimate students to the schedule and routines of a typical kindergarten day.

Riding the Bus

If your child will ride the school bus to and from school, rest assured that school staff are waiting to help them navigate their way to the classroom! Families can assist with the bus rider process by helping their child learn their bus number and writing the bus number in a safe location where your child can find it. If you have questions about the bus rider process, someone will be able to assist you at the Kindergarten Meet & Greet.

School Supplies

Each teacher will have specific school supplies for their classroom that will be communicated on one of the first days of school. Families can find a general school supply list here.

If you would like to help your child’s teacher with additional classroom supplies, you can connect with them directly during the Kindergarten Meet & Greet.

We are thrilled to have your child join us this school year. While everyone experiences a mix of emotions at the start of school, remember our CMCSS teachers are here to work with you and support your child throughout their academic journey.

Welcome to St. Bethlehem Kindergarten!

Welcome to St. Bethlehem Kindergarten!

We love that you are going to be with us for this very important first step into school! The following is some information that will help you navigate these first days of school.

  • Once your child is fully registered, your child will be assigned a teacher. You will hear from your child’s teacher sometime in the week of August 2-5.  They will reach out to you with the primary phone number you gave at registration.

  • August 6, 5pm-6pm is Kindergarten Meet-and-Greet time here at the school! 6pm-7pm is designated for our 1st and 2nd grade students. You can park and enter on the Wilma Rudolph or Old Russellville Pike side of the building on this evening. You’ll tour the school, ride a school bus over on the Old Russellville Pike side of the building, and meet your child’s teacher.

  • August 9, 9:30am-10:45am – Parents/Guardians and kindergarten students come to the school at 9:30 for a meeting that begins at 9:45 in your child’s classroom. Kindergarten students DO NOT ride the bus to or from school on this day.  During this morning meeting you will receive:
  • more details about the school year
  • the specific day your child will come to school for his or her full testing day from 8:15am-3:30pm (either August 12, 13, 16, or 17)
  • Breakfast is served to all students in the rooms every morning. We start breakfast at 8:15. We let children down to the rooms beginning a 8:15.
  • We kindly ask that you say hi to the teacher, help get your child settled, and then say goodbye within 10-15 minutes. We promise they will be fine, and they’ll have a great day!

  • On the August 9 day, kindergarten students do not ride the bus to school, nor stay at school after the 9:45am parent/guardian meetings in the classrooms. Students will return home with parent and/or guardian.

  • On August 9, teachers will give parents/guardians one specific testing day for each child. This one testing day allows your child to acclimate to school with only 4-5 other students and the teacher. Testing days will be either August 12, 13, 16, or the 17.  ALL kindergarten students come full time on August 18.

  • Parents/guardians can walk their kindergarten student to the classroom on their testing day.

  • Beginning on August 18, students will enter the school from the car rider line or the buses on their own. We have many, many teachers and staff posted to assist our students getting to and from their classroom daily.

  • ALL St. B students will wear an informational lanyard that will given to parents/guardians on August 6 during our Meet-and-Greet time from 5pm-6pm. First and second grade students will also receive a lanyard to wear the first days of school.

  • Kindergarten students need to wear their lanyards on their assigned testing day, and August 18-25.
